How much does excavation cost per hour in Kelowna?
It depends on the machine size, the type of work, how easy the site is to reach, and whether material has to be hauled away. Instead of quoting a rate over the phone, we walk the site and give you a firm price before anything starts. On-site estimates are free.
What should I ask before hiring an excavation contractor?
Ask who will run the machine, whether you'll get a firm quote, what's included (hauling, backfill, cleanup), how they handle underground utilities, and what insurance they carry. We're owner-operated, so the person who quotes your job is the one doing the work.
What needs to happen before excavation starts?
Underground utilities must be located through BC One Call before anyone digs. You'll also want your property lines and building location confirmed, any permits in place, and clear access for the machine. We go over all of this at the estimate.
Do I need a permit to excavate?
It depends on the work and where you are. Foundations and larger projects usually need a building permit, and rules differ between the City of Kelowna, the City of West Kelowna and the District of Lake Country. Check with your municipality, and ask us if you're unsure.
How long does excavation take?
A small trenching job can take part of a day, while a full foundation dig can take several days. Lot size, depth, soil, rock and weather all matter. We give you a timeline with your quote.
What happens to the soil and debris?
We can haul excavated material and debris away, or use it for backfill and grading on your site where that makes sense. Tell us which you prefer at the estimate so it's built into the quote.
